Creativity - Painting a House

Activity: Painting the Inside Walls of a House
Type of Activity: Creativity
Number of Hours: 6

In the summer of 2011, one of my best friends moved back to Holland and her house needed to be returned to the owner in its original state, meaning that all of the walls needed to be repainted. Her family needed help with this so I spent a whole day at her house painting various walls white. It was tiring, but also great fun as there were more friends around, and with the company of music, time flew by. The work consisted of taping the edges so the wooden borders on the floor and ceiling wouldn't get white, and paint the edges of the walls with a small brush. Finally, a big roll-brush was used to put the white paint on the walls more efficiently.

After about two walls, I started to get tired and the fun of it was pretty much gone. However, I made a promise which I needed to keep and I planned not to leave the house before all the painting was done. By the end of the day, I was very tired but it was satisfying to be a help to the family and make the process of moving a little bit easier for them.
When all the work was done, we ended the tiring but fun day with a paint fight, and if I could, I would repeat the day without a doubt because it was tiring but also a lot of fun!

Creativity - Face painting

Activity: Face painting in the Welcome's BBQ
Type of Activity: Creativity
Number of Hours: 4

In the beginning of October, St. Dominic's always organizes a Welcome's BBQ so that new students and parents can meet teachers, and students and parents that have been in the school for longer. It is always lots of fun with games going on, football games being organized, and suitable activities for smaller children. A friend and I spent roughly 4 hours painting children's faces, from the Incredible Hulk to a princess to a pirate. It was great fun although a lot of patience was required. It was difficult to keep some children sitting still for a while, but they were all satisfied with the result, eventually.

I had done some face painting before, but this was the first time I did it to children I didn't know. At first I was concerned that the children would not like it, but that feeling faded when I saw the children smiling and laughing of happiness when they saw the result. I have a passion for children, which is probably due to the fact that I was brought up around children. I have three siblings, and my youngest brother was born when I was 9 years old. I have spent a big part of my life taking care of children and babysitting. I consider myself a patient and caring person when it comes to children, which was a useful ability when it came to this activity.

Creativity - Yearbook Page

Activity: Creating the yearbook page of my class
Type of Activity: Creativity
Number of Hours: 4

I created the yearbook page for my class, by collecting photos of everyone and creating a collage using Picasa. This is a computer program designed to collect and edit photos, and put them together in a collage with all sorts of effects. Besides the pictures, every student had a ''most likely to...'' sentence assigned to them, based on their personality and experiences.
I have been designing the yearbook page for various years now, as I enjoy photography and editing photos. Besides this, I love arts and always tend to focus a lot on the aesthetics of anything I make. This is the reason why my tutor and class assigned me to do the job.
The previous year, I drew every person of my class in cartoon version and colored them in using Paint. It took me an enormous amount of time to complete the sketch and final version of every single person, and my goal this year was to spend less time on it but still make it look like care was put in.
I was very happy with the final result, and so was the rest of the class, which was very satisfying. I got various compliments from teachers and students from other classes enhancing this satisfied feeling even more. I can definitely say my goal has been reached.
