Action - Football Tournament Julians

Activity: Football Tournaments in and out of Julians
Type of Activity: Action
Number of Hours: 50

Ever since I joined St. Julians in may 2012, I have been wanting to join the football team because after all, this is one of my favourite sports and one that I love to play day in day out. I was very happy when at the start of this school year, the girls football season had finally begun. It took quite some weeks to get used to the playing style of this new team, and to get to know everyone, but eventually, I started to feel more comfortable around everybody in terms of playing style and passes, and started to really enjoy the tranings. I realized how much I had missed playing football and couldn't wait to play more games and spend more time with the team that I had really started to like more and more as time passed.

In november 2012, we went on a tournament to the Algarve and stayed in a holiday resort, which was really lovely as we got to make use of the swimming pool and all sorts of facilities as much as we wanted. Since the team was so big, the team was divided into two smaller equal teams and there were now 4 teams participating in the whole tournament, which weren't too many, but did not take the fun from playing.

The games themselves went quite well, I played as a left midfielder and scored two goals in the three games we played. I feel like I could have scored more, but on the other hand am quite happy with my personal performance because I gave quite some useful passes, and the fact that one doesn't always score does not necessarily mean that this player is not in any way not important to the rest of the team. I feel that, as a player, I have really developed because it wasn't easy going from one team to the other, but I adapted which lead to some really good memories. We ended up playing the finals against the other St. Julians team, where we lost by one goal that was scored in the last 5 minutes of the game, showing how close the two teams were in terms of quality and skills.

Another tournament that I participated in was the tournament organized by and held in St. Julians, in which my team (the team was split up again) came second place as well. This was actually a really good result, considering there were about 10 teams participating, and St. Julians managed to come 1st and 2nd, as well as in the Algarve tournament.

I have really enjoyed the football season in St. Julians this year, and am very glad to have participated in this team. There were times where I missed my team in St. Dominic's, where I was the captain and knew every player extremely well, which does change your feelings towards the team. I would have loved to continue with this team for another year, but St. Julians is a better team in terms of skills, and it felt great experiencing this and being part of this.
