Activity: Prefecting in both St. Julian's and St. Dominic's
Type of Activity: Service
Number of Hours: 30
In St. Dominic's, I had to prefect the reception area half an hour during two days of the weeks' lunchtimes, making sure no children would pass through since this area provides a short cut from the classrooms to the playground area, but too many children passing would disturb the classes held in the corridors of the shortcut, where other children from Junior school would have class. This was generally quite boring, since initially, there would be a lot of children trying to fool you and pass through, who then got to know that this is absolutely not allowed. After a few weeks, no one would try to pass through anymore and we basically just had to sit there. There were definitely times where I would have wanted to spend my time doing sitting outside in the Sun or other things, but I signed up as a prefect thus I had to complete the task. I was glad to help out and it was definitely not an annoying thing to do, especially not since we had a partner that would keep us company.
In St. Julians, I was chosen to be a back-up prefect, meaning I had to prefect when the regular prefects were ill. I must say, there haven't been many occasions where I would have to prefect, but I enjoyed prefecting since I got to know new children and they were generally very sweet and respectful. There are always a few exceptions who try to see where your limits are, but overall I enjoyed prefecting here in St. Julians. I was happy and honoured to be chosen as back-up prefect, since I only came at the end of year 12 and the prefects had already been picked.
